Leon Mindin, Esq.
Managing Attorney and Counselor At Law
Thanks for taking some time to read a bit about me. After some early forays into insurance law and civil litigation, I have been practicing exclusively as a matrimonial and family law attorney for over a decade, serving clients throughout the New York City area. I have handled cases from the most basic of divorces with minimal assets to complex multi-million dollar marital estates, all types of custody settlements, international parental kidnapping cases, etc... I have also represented over 700 prenuptial agreement clients throughout my career. I want to say I have seen it all, but I still get surprised by exciting and complex issues of law, and I thrive in learning new developments in the law to give my clients the edge they need.
I am well-received and respected by my colleagues and judges. I decided a long time ago that I would be unapologetically myself, and this has helped me build great relationships with counsel, court staff, judges, and court referees/magistrates before whom I practice law regularly.
I am very proud of my background as an immigrant. I came to the United States as a religious refugee from the former Soviet Union (namely Ukraine). I am immeasurably proud to be an American and strongly believe in the core values of truth, justice, equality, and opportunity. I arrived with my parents, grandparents, aunt, and uncle in Brooklyn, New York, as a young boy on January 19, 1989, when the 9 of us moved into a one bedroom apartment as my family members went to work to get on their feet. I grew up with a tremendous appreciation and understanding of the value of honesty, integrity, and the compounding effects of daily hard work. I work tirelessly for my clients and take practical and realistic approaches to resolving matters for them. Many have commented on how I see things the way other attorneys cannot. I recognize that I deal with real people, not corporations with bottomless money pits.
As a product of the NYC Public School system, I graduated from CUNY Hunter College with a Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning and Policy. Looking to further my education and make a difference and impact in people’s lives, I worked full time and studied for the LSAT until the wee hours of the night. The hard work I was accustomed to paid off when my fiancé, now wife/law partner, and I got accepted to the same law school at St. Thomas School of Law in Miami and continued our journey.
In 2015, my wife Elena and I launched Law Offices of Mindin & Mindin, P.C. We hung our shingle in possibly the tiniest office in Manhattan's Financial District. We have built our practice up from the ground floor to one of the most recognized and highly-ranked small matrimonial law firms in New York City!
I am the father of two amazing children (a boy and a girl) and pay particular attention to custody cases. I always try to empathize with my clients and solve the often complex and personal issues that arise when parents split up. In my spare time (whatever I have left of it), you can find me spending time with my wife and kids, on the sidelines of youth soccer and baseball games, reading, yelling at the TV as I watch the Yankees play, and enjoying the endless fun in my home city of New York.
You made it this far into my biography and I appreciate you taking the time to get to know me. I look forward to the opportunity to get to know you and your case so that I can make a meaningful impact on your life.
